Wear and tear guide

You’ve probably heard the expression “wear and tear” before. Anything you use, whether it be clothing, a camera, skis, a sofa, shoes or a car, will suffer wear and tear as you use it. That means the overall quality and value of the item reduces as it’s used.

This normal effect of use is why we don’t expect your leased Nissan to come back to us in perfect condition. However, it’s important that it comes back only showing “normal” wear and tear.

Near the end of your lease we will arrange an inspection (at no cost to you) of your Nissan by an independent, qualified assessor. This inspection will check the level of wear and tear, to decide whether it’s normal or excessive. If the assessor decides there is damage or excessive wear, we may charge you the costs of putting it right. You may even be able to make an insurance claim for some damage, rather than having to pay for it yourself.

Your obligations under the lease

Regular servicing

Your Nissan came with a warranty that covered three years or 100,000kms, whichever came first. To keep this warranty valid, you were required to have the vehicle serviced as per the service schedule in the hand book supplied with the vehicle. If you are unsure about the servicing requirements please contact your local Nissan dealer or call 0800 52 00 13.

Kilometre limit

Your lease agreement states the total kilometre allowance applicable, should you exceed this allowance the following will be charged;

  1. Excess kilometres are charged at a cent per kilometre rate as specified in your Lease Agreement, this charge covers the additional depreciation costs due to the excess kilometres travelled.
  2. Any servicing costs due to the excess kilometres travelled. These will be invoiced back to you when the cost is incurred.
  3. When the vehicle is returned with excess kilometres and the scheduled servicing has not been carried out; we will have it done and will invoice this cost back to you.

Please note: during the term of the lease if you are going to exceed the kilometre allowance please let us know. We will be able to adjust your monthly payment to incorporate the extra kilometres and serving charges thereby avoiding a large payment at the end of the lease.

Taking care of the vehicle

Everything suffers wear and tear while it’s being used. Now you’re at the end of your lease, we’ll be checking the vehicle for any excessive wear or damage caused by misuse or accidents. Find out about the inspection process and what it covers here.
